COLVIN family and fanilies
who are the descendents of JOHN COLVIN (corvin) of Wythe County Va. There
is evidence that John Colvin came from England and married ELIZABETH CREIGER (Kreiger) who was German and started using the surname CORVIN. Others say that
John was CORVIN and was from one of the Bohemian countries. Some say that he
was born in Maryland and his surname was CORVIN. It is my opinion that he was
from England.
The name CORVIN stayed with the family thru a move to Tennessee in the Rhea
and Meigs Counties area. During this time it became COLVIN with no particular
justification for the change. One source (a California lady) whose opinion I
trust more than any other thinks that CORVIN is the original surname and that
JOHN CORVIN was Hungarian or German.
John's mother was SUSANNAH GAYLE his father being unknown. He was contemporary
with ANDREW COLVIN who could have been his father, brother, or some relative.
